St. Thomas the Apostle Workshop - Carnival Day

On Friday 8th July the Bloco Team visited St Thomas the Apostle School in Southwark to take part in a Carnival Day.  Every pupil in KS3 had the opportunity to learn about Carnival around the world and participate in a wide range of creative workshops.  The Bloco led a Carnival Dance and Drumming workshop with 70 students and other students in the school took part in poetry, samba, mask making, capoeira, face painting and Caribbean cooking workshops.

St Thomas the Apostle is home to some of our regular Bloco Members, Dominic Canning and Savior Onuorah so it was great to have them help us lead the workshop.

The day ended with a performance showcase of all the different activities that had taken place.

The School newsletter reviewed Carnival Day as "an inclusive learning experience for all our KS3 pupils and for lots of them learning about carnival will strengthen their connection with important aspects of their cultural heritages and with their homes and communities. The theme gave our students the chance to express their ideas, thoughts and feelings, learning through all their senses and developing team working skills and confidence as learners. It is an experience that links directly with learning and most importantly with the world of the imagination and the emotions. Carnival can also be experienced as an aspect of spirituality."
