Happy New Year from Bloco!

2023 was a big year for us, here are some of our favourite moments!

1. Senior Summer School Finale!

Our annual summer school showcase is the celebratory mark after 2 weeks of hard work, passion and dedication from all of the young people, staff and volunteers. This year’s spectacle was no exception with performers paying #Tribute through repertoire, choreography and poetry to the movement of people into London and what impact this has had on our culture.

2. Glastonbury with Ezra Collective

We helped EZ bring the joy to the West Holts stage at the UK’s biggest festival for a performance we will never ever forget!

3. Freetown Collective Bloco Late

We were super lucky enough to have Scarlett organise a visit from Freetown Collective, a band from Trinidad & Tobago fusing hip hop, jazz, reggae, soca and poetry. They watched us play and stayed to deliver a Bloco Late with us which we thoroughly enjoyed!

4. Chase The Sun Run

Throughout the month of May, our KB team were training hard for a 5k run to raise money for Junior Summer School. With over 50k run collectively, and some notable personal bests, we were able to raise £4894 on the day which all went towards making last year’s Junior Summer School the best one yet!

5. Pan Takeover

We started a new afterschool session for our steel pan section Millie which became super popular! Led by Millie, Bloco members from all sections were present learning, scales, theory, melodies and chords! Keep an eye out as next year this group will be exclusively performing at our fundraiser in February.

6. Hull Freedom Festival

We took a trip to Hull, explored a new city, performed at their lovely festival and took part in a very intense game of mafia on the coach trip!

7. Leadership Programme

We are super proud of our 23/24 cohort of young leaders! We’re really looking forward to seeing how now as young leaders they put into practice the skills they learnt over the course in the next year. Good luck!

8. Notting Hill Carnival

We paraded the streets of West London like never before! It was perfect way to celebrate everything we worked on at summer school and gave our young people a real taste of carnival!

9. Nando’s Performance

We performed at a private event for one of our favourite food spots, sharing our music and vibes with all of their guests.

10. Royal Albert Hall with Ezra Collective

As if Glastonbury and Eventim Apollo wasn’t enough, Ezra bought us out at their headline show at the Royal Albert Hall kitted out in EZ merch and Dr. Martens , we threw a party on that stage and was a magnificent last performance of the year!

Looking to 2024, we are so excited and can’t wait to create and share new memories with the Bloco Family!
