Celebrating the Spirit of Giving: Kinetika Bloco’s 2024 Christmas Party
As part of the Leadership Programme, our amazing 2024 cohort had the exciting challenge of curating our annual Christmas Party — a festive gathering to celebrate the incredible year at Bloco. The event brought together dozens of young people and staff to reflect on our shared achievements, and the Leadership Folk were at the helm, putting into practice everything they’ve learned throughout the programme.
From room setups to invitations, decorations, music, and budget management, the team did it all. Their attention to detail and teamwork ensured that the party was a memorable occasion, filled with joy, fun and big family vibes!
However, what made this year’s celebration even more special was the emphasis on giving back during a season that can be difficult for many. In line with their social action focus, the young people highlighted two important causes: poverty in the UK and the environmental impacts of fast fashion. We encouraged attendees to bring donations — from non-perishable food and toiletries to clothing and gender-neutral toys. These contributions were then donated to Lambeth South and Croydon Foodbank, as well as Traid in Brixton, organisations dedicated to supporting those in need.
The donations poured in, reinforcing the power of collective action. It was a beautiful reminder of the principle that has inspired us all year: Ubuntu — “I am, because we are.” This Southern African philosophy speaks to our interconnectedness and reminds us that while no one can do everything, everyone can do something. At Kinetika Bloco, when we come together, the impact is always profound.
To top off the event, we had the privilege of delivering the donations and meeting the incredible workers and volunteers at these organisations. Their passion and dedication were truly inspiring, providing a heartwarming and meaningful way to end the year.
As we look back on 2024, we are filled with gratitude for the sense of community and purpose that defines Bloco. We look forward to carrying this spirit into 2025, continuing to make a difference, one step at a time.
